10.5mm Hush Acoustic Laminated Glass

Laminated glass with a sound-damping interlayer to quieten traffic and neighbours.

100–3000 × 1800mm

Safety corners: Each of the four corners is tipped: the sharp point is cut off and polished, so a corner is less likely to catch skin or clothing, or chip when it is knocked. $16 for all four corners. Rounded corners are priced per corner and replace safety corners.

About this glass

Acoustic laminated glass uses a special interlayer that absorbs sound, so it cuts noticeably more traffic, aircraft and street noise than ordinary glass of the same thickness. It is also a laminated safety glass.

Laminated glass is two sheets bonded to a clear interlayer. If it breaks, the pieces stay stuck to the interlayer and the panel stays in place, so it is a safety glass for windows, doors, skylights and balustrades. It cannot be toughened, but it can be cut and polished.

Questions

How much quieter will it be?

It depends on the frame and the gaps around it, but acoustic laminated glass typically cuts several decibels more than ordinary glass of the same thickness, which most people notice as a clear difference. Sealing gaps matters as much as the glass.
