About this glass

Acid etched glass (Matelux) is frosted by acid on one side, giving an even, satin finish that lets light through while blurring what is behind it. The frosted side stays smooth to the touch and is easy to clean, unlike sandblasted glass.

6mm is the everyday all-rounder: windows, cabinet doors, splashback-sized panels and shelves in a cabinet. Tap Toughened if it needs to be safety glass. Toughened glass is about four to five times stronger than ordinary glass and breaks into small blunt pieces, which is why it is required in doors, showers and low windows. It cannot be cut or drilled afterwards, so check your sizes before ordering.

Questions

Which side of frosted glass faces out?

For windows the frosted side usually goes inside, where it stays clean. For shower screens, put the smooth side to the water so it is easier to clean.

Acid etched or sandblasted?

Acid etched has a finer, more even finish and does not show fingerprints the way sandblasted glass does.
